8. Innocence

I was talking to (at) Kyba the other day via messenger about how I was searching for meaning in Re's personality. He's your classic, and dare I say cliché, overly kind and soft hearted guy. He doesn't have the stomach (or muscle) for violence of any kind and tries hard to value the good in everyone. I know what you're thinking, wow, what a boring wussy guy.

And I started confusing myself, wonder why I picked this personality. I KNOW there is a symbolic reason, there has to be or otherwise I wouldn't have kept it in the first place. XD It wouldn't sit right with me.

So here's what I discovered- the reason why I'm so attached to Re. He is, at the beginning of the story, a very innocent person. He lived a somewhat sheltered childhood, and knows very little about the trouble in the world. For no reason outside his own control is Re's innocence removed, really. But Re is a very curious person. He loves books, he loves to study, he loves to know "why." It is in this way that Re's personality dooms his innocence. His thirst to know will reveal to him the cruelties and corruption of the real world. He is, by nature, self destructive. His need to know will reveal terrible things to him, making his constant optimism almost impossible.

Re's curiosity is also the driving force of my story, and the whole story is about his leaning about human nature and such. In the end he is, for better or for worse, a different and stronger person.

SO YAH. That's why I chose in for innocence. XD;;

If I need to explain why he has a (poorly drawn) book in his hand, I... I will explode. o__o
